Holiday and charity expeditions to high altitude (above 3000m) are becomming increasing common. More people every year are taking to mountains and high altitute for trekking, climbing, ski-touring and other persuits but screening, prevention and treatment of altitude related illness is poorly provided due to the lack of expertise.

Altitude related illness can strike suddenly and is often fatal. Fortunately most cases of Acute Mountain Sickness ('AMS') and the more severe forms such as High Altitude Pulmonary Odema (HAPE) and High Altitude Cerebral Odema (HACE) are avoidable and with the right preparation and advice at hand, either on the mountains or remotely, the risks associated with these conditions can reduced enormously.

At 76 Harley Street we have a world-class team of high altitude specialists, many of whom are pioneers in physiology, genetics, and medical best practice. Extreme altitude is frequently used as research 'testbed' to understand how the body reacts under extremes of stress and where very little oxygen is available, as occurs in severe illness. Much of our understanding of how to survive in such conditions are the same principles we apply in preventative medicine and improving human performance both physical and cognitive.

We believe we are the UK's first dedicated High Altitude clinic. Our experts include Dr Mike Grocott, Professor Hugh Montgomery and

We work with a wide range of individuals and organisations, from people interested in or organising expeditions:
