Mouth cancer is a malignant growth that can occur in any part of
the mouth, including the tongue, lips and throat. Mouth cancers have a
higher proportion of deaths per number of cases than breast cancer
or cervical cancer and the make up 3% of all cancers.
Your dentist will check for signs of cancer during your routine
check-ups, however, you should see your dentist if you notice any
abnormal changes in your mouth, such as changes in your oral mucosa
(the lining of your mouth) like the appearance of white or red patches,
esperically in areas such as the lips, tongue, floor of mouth and the
area around the lower wisdom teeth. If you notice any changes, let your
dentist know.
